Through the International, you can visit their website to access effective grass-roots tools that will allow you to GET INVOLVED at both the national and local level.  Up-to-date information on recent events is also made available on both websites for key legislative and political issues relevant to workers and the labor movement.

The United Association views legislative and political affairs among our top goals and priorities, primarily because of the impact on jobs and on our future.  And, today, the need for every UA member to be politically and legislatively active is greater than ever before. Our efforts are focused on protecting rights of workers and unions and creating good jobs for working families.  Our strength, as always, lies in our solidarity – when our voices united as one, we cannot be ignored.

Now is the time to GET INVOLVED!   Whether you are veteran UA member or a first-year apprentice --your involvement is essential to our future.

CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES TO GET INLVOLVED IN - (10/13/2015)

Brothers & Sisters,

I am writing to you all today to ask for your help.  Local 550 is taking on a lead role in a couple different political campaigns and we are asking for your participation.  With only a few weeks to go before the general elections now is the time to get involved.

We will be knocking doors for candidate for State Senate, Mike Brady.  As a State Representative Mike Brady has been a voice for working people, fighting for family sustaining wages and good jobs in his district.  He needs our help to bring that same dedication to working people to the State Senate.  The district that will fall under Mike’s jurisdiction is the towns of Brockton, Halifax, Hanover, Hanson, Plympton, Whitman as well as three precincts in East Bridgewater and two in Easton.  We will be knocking doors tonight 10/13 and Tuesday 10/27.  We will be meeting at our training facility in Weymouth (195 Libbey Industrial Park Drive) at 4pm to hand out the packets and will be collecting them in Whitman at the VFW Hall located at 95 Essex Street.  If it is inconvenient for you to go to Weymouth to get the packet, let me know and I will make arrangements to meet you elsewhere. So again the campaign activities are as follows:

  • TONIGHT 10/13 AT 4PM FROM OUR TRAINING FACILITY (I CAN ALSO MEET YOU ELSEWHERE IF THAT WORKS BETTER)

  • TUESDAY 10/24 AT 4PM FROM OUR TRAINING FACILITY (I CAN ALSO MEET YOU ELSEWHERE IF THAT WORKS BETTER)

Starting this Thursday 10/15 at 4pm will be knocking doors for candidate for Mayor of Quincy, Bill Phelan.  These neighborhood canvasses will continue every Tuesday and Thursday night at 4pm and Saturday mornings at 10am.  We will be meeting at the parking lot located at 1 Merrymount Pkwy in Quincy (Directly across the street from Adams Field and the new Central Middle School which was done NON-UNION!!!!)  I don’t need to tell you how important this race is with hundreds of millions of dollars in construction work coming up in the City of Quincy.  The current mayor has made it clear he DOES NOT WANT TO SUPPORT LOCAL UNION WORKERS ON THESE JOBS!!!  Please make every effort to attend at least two of these upcoming campaign activities in Quincy.  The schedule is as follows:

  • THURSDAY 10/15 AT 4PM, MEETING AT THE PARKING LOT AT 1 MERRYMOUNT PKWY (ACROSS FROM ADAMS FIELD)

  • SATURDAY 10/17 AT 10AM, MEETING AT THE PARKING LOT AT 1 MERRYMOUNT PKWY (ACROSS FROM ADAMS FIELD)
